I'm a huge J. Daniels fan, and no surprise here, but she's nailed it for me with every single one of her books. There hasn't been a single one that she's written that I haven't loved. But for me, it's her 'Bama Boys that are my favorites. Like all of her diehard fans, I've also been patiently waiting for CJ Tully's story, and let me just to tell you now that it was worth every second of that wait."Admit it. You're finding me irresistible right now."
From the moment CJ and Riley met, their chemistry leapt right off the page, crackling and pulsing around me. From the moment they met. It was practically palpable, and they were so perfect together -- easy, passionate, playful -- that I honestly had no idea how on earth Riley was able to deny or hide it for even a second. CJ was a mountain of muscled alpha male who hid a tender side and a romantic soul beneath all that bulk. But it was the way he was with Riley, so gentle, kind, loving and wise, that did me in. He was so patient and understanding with her when that was what she needed from him most. His deliciously dirty mouth, though? Yeah, my knees went weak reading the some of things he said, so it's a good thing I was sitting down or I may have melted into a steaming puddle on my floor.
"I'm waiting to wake up from the best dream of my life."
I loved Riley. She was adorable, naturally curious and endearingly naive just sweetly sassy enough that she never came off as sarcastic. She was also very funny, sometimes unintentionally so, and I couldn't stop myself from laughing out loud at some of the things that ran through her head or came out of her mouth. I think her biggest flaw was that she was just a titch too amiable, wanting so much to please everyone else in her life - from her dirtbag ex, Richard, to her brother, Reed - with little thought to what she wanted or needed. Riley was almost delicate, though, with just a bit of innocence and some genuine wide-eyed wonder in her, and that was exactly what CJ needed in a woman. He needed someone he could protect and have fun with and love passionately. He did all of that with her spectacularly as I sat here in my seat swooning and devouring every single word of it.
"We're lovers who became friends who became...everything."
J Daniels has never failed to rock my world with her brilliant books, and What I Need now crowns the top of an already fabulous list of top personal favorites. My heart melted, my cheeks burned and my soul sang right along with CJ and Riley's as they fell in love. This book made my heart so very happy, and What I Need by J Daniels is exactly the kind of love story I hope for when I want to read something sexy, sweet and romantic.

What I Need Alabama Summer Book 5 edition by J Daniels Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
The only thing that would have made this book any better would be MORE of it!!! We had to wait a super long time for CJ and I'm not going to lie I was scared with all the time I had to build CJ up in my head the real thing would fall short in the end. I'm happy to say my worries were pointless. He was all that and more!
I LOVED both CJ and Riley but I loved them more together.
"We're lovers who became friends who became...everything."
I loved this storyline. We get an immediate sexy chemistry between these two right from the start and then when things aren't as they seem we see them form a friendship that's truly amazing! They laugh together and are so flirty and playful with each other it makes the "friend zone" a heck of a lot more fun. Their friendship builds into something so raging that when they finally come together they are an inferno! We knew CJ's reaction from their initial meeting at Reed and Beth's wedding but to get Riley's POV was hilarious!
"I am completely unprepared for my duties involving close contact with a man who uses handcuffs on a daily basis."
CJ knows Riley is it for him! CJ is totally rivaling Ben for my top spot because like our Ben he was totally unashamedly hooked from day one.
"Riley Tennyson got under my skin at that wedding and effing stayed there."
If you want a sexy dirty talking but sweet charmer you found it. This was everything I'd hoped it would be. Intense sex scenes that J is known for, hilarious laugh out loud moments, and friendships that make you fall in love with each and every character.
We also get a preview of Jake and I'm nervous we may need to stock pile the Kleenex now cause I was already getting the feels from 2-3 pages.
LOVED EVERY PAGE!!!!
Where do I even begin with my love for What I Need? It's book five in J. Daniels' Alabama Summer Series. If you've been living under a rock and haven't yet read the others, What I Need is a standalone, but you REALLY need to read the other books to appreciate the greatness of our friends in Ruxton, Alabama.
After a horrible fight with her boyfriend Richard (Dick), Riley makes her way to her brother Reed's wedding. It gives her time to get away from the monotony of nursing school and her failed relationship. What Riley doesn't anticipate is being paired up with one of Reed's friends.
"My breath catches the tiniest bit as I instantly recognize CJ Tully, another member of the Ruxton Police Department. We've never met. Not officially, anyway."
CJ is the bachelor of the group. He's a little bit older, not much wiser, but definitely just as hot as our favorite guys Ben, Luke and Reed. He's a fun loving guy but has the sweetest side to him. It was fantastic to get to know him and his #TullyCharm.
"Come on, darlin'. Go somewhere with me."
After a series of events, Riley comes to be CJ's roommate and they're officially in the friend-zone. Things may have happened at the wedding, but their attraction is off-limits...until they both come to their senses and realize that it's inevitable. Riley and CJ belong together and nothing stands in their way...except a few little white lies here and there.
Once again, J. Daniels gets it right with What I Need. Super hot in the beginning with awesome build-up and banter throughout the story. You can't help but fall in love with our friends in Ruxton. This series may not be super heavy or emotional, but J. knows how to write on all levels and you find yourself laughing out loud on one page, almost tearing up on the next and swooning throughout.
"I am not forgetting you. I got a taste of something I want more of and a taste like that, babe, there's no forgetting."
We've waited almost two years for new characters from our beloved Alabama Summer Series and let me tell you, the wait was worth it. It's like coming home after being away for a while, everyone is the same but a little different, maybe more mature, but your friendship is still there to stand the test of time. Instead of a typical "years later" epilogue, J. set us up for Jake's (CJ's little brother) story. I can already tell this is going to be angsty and emotional and I cannot wait!
