Samson Lovely Mortal Scanguards Vampires Book 1 edition by Tina Folsom Paranormal Romance eBooks

I enjoy reading romance novels, which include some sex. However, from literally the very first line, it's all about the sex. Samson can't get it up (he's with a vamp whore) in the opening line. Then Delilah comes along and he suddenly wants to have sex with her like crazy, she feels the same way, so they go at it like rabbits. I am 37% into the book and they are in the middle of having sex....granted for the first time, but that's all they think about for the first 1/3 of the book~ and then the act goes on for pages and pages. Then she had to throw in a very graphic sex scene of one of Samson's Vampire friends....a totally random scene that is put in the book just for the nasty sex. I feel no connection to the characters, and no interest in what is going to happen to them.

Yes, someone is trying to kill Delilah and Samson has an evil ex-fiancé vampire that is probably going to do something bad later in the book, but I just don't care. It's just put there as an excuse for a plot in a book about sex. Too bad :(

Samson Lovely Mortal Scanguards Vampires Book 1 edition by Tina Folsom Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

Delilah is in San Francisco to audit a company called Scanguards, and she suspects someone is embezzling money. After she gets too close to the truth, someone tries to kill her. She bangs on a stranger’s front door for help.
Samson has a little problem he can’t get an erection. It’s been nine months and zip, nada, nothing. When a strange woman begs for his help, he desperate and thinks she’s the stripper/hooker his friends hired for his birthday to help with his problem. After he forcibly kisses the panicked woman and finally gets an erection, his friends and the real stripper show up. Talk about a humiliating situation.
Delilah is a human, Samson is a vampire, and their relationship starts out strong. Though he only meant to use her to fix his problem, their chemistry is instant and one night isn’t enough. On his part, it’s almost a case of insta-love but definitely insta-lust for both of them. Samson’s friends are also his coworkers, and they’re downright loyal. As the owner of a bodyguard company, Scanguards, he doesn’t pay much attention to the human side of his business, just the vampire side, and conflict arises when he finds out Delilah works for him.
I really liked this book. Delilah and Samson are likable characters. She’s strong, snarky, and confident in herself. When she finds out he’s a vampire, she completely freaks out on him. In some books, the heroine accepts this kind of thing too easily, but Delilah was appropriately terrified, intrigued, and desperate to escape him even though her heart told her to give Samson a second chance. I love emotional turmoil.
The minor characters are great. Yummy Amaury, Thomas, and Ricky! Carl is sooo sweet. I love reading in someone’s POV who’s not the H/h—it gives the story more flavor—as long as the POV shifts are done correctly (which they were in this story).
Though I liked the book, it could use a light edit to clean up stray periods and unneeded commas.
4 Stars
What do you get when you take a bitter, sexually-frustrated, male vampire and a human female, who gets nauseous at the sight of blood? Let me tell you...a sizzling hot erotic romance by Tina Folsom.

The betrayal that Samson suffered has left him unable to trust any female. When a human, damsel in distress, appears on his doorstep Samson gets an erection for the first time in 9 months he thinks that he is cured. At last he can find satisfaction...but, when he tried to have sex...he is yet again disappointed.

He seeks out his shrink to solve his erectile dysfunction issue. Dr. Drake, his shrink, gives him a prescription `Viagra for Vampires'... sleep with the human.

This series was recommended by a friend who shares my love for erotic vampire romances. I enjoyed every emotional, erotic, and sexy scene. The story progresses at a wonderful pace, it is very unpredictable, and I never guessed the twisted betrayals that befall this awesome group of characters.
NO SPOILERS or plot summaries. Recommendations included.

HIGH LEVEL I really don't know what the heck Ms. Folsom was thinking - I nearly didn't bother with this because of the title. (I stopped looking at covers a long time ago.) EXCELLENT Book 1 in a vampire-themed paranormal romance/erotica series. Definitely more to this story than just the erotica- great plot, great characters, all around well written. Tone is feisty with a good dose of humor, a splash of violence and menace, a bit of romance and plenty of lust. Paranormal concepts limited to standard vampire mythology - no other monsters or madness.

SEXUAL CONTENT Lusty m/f encounters- oral & anal. Explicit, but straightforward. Nothing really crazy- no ménage, BSDM, fetishism or voyeurism.

CHARACTERS Great cast of characters. Not quite a boy's club set up, but close with Samson running a company employing vampires who are also his friends. Supporting characters were surprisingly well developed, making banter between the bunch a fun part of the story. Both Samson and Delilah are funny and well developed. While both were strong willed, neither of them was overly dominant or painfully submissive. Delilah was a great female lead as she was spunky and independent while allowing enough vulnerability to show through. There is no fear of having to sit through a silly story about a weak woman getting swept off of her feet. And Samson isn't so strong that he needed to be tamed either. It was well balanced.

PLOT Romance paramount, power struggle/greed subplot. Pacing is excellent consistent and medium intensity. The sense of humor is immediately apparent in the set up a vampire with performance issues and a budding romance between "Samson" and "Delilah." Once you're past the blatant comedy, the story manages to deepen and intensify. Stakes expand beyond the romance to danger to both their lives and his company from greedy, jealous rivals. Overall it wasn't too complicated, but provided a good framework for the story. It also provided a chance to get to know the other characters enough that I can't wait to read their stories too.

BOTTOM LINE Recommended. Great story, satisfying is just about every possible way. I love these characters and can't wait to keep reading about them!

RECOMMENDATIONS (Many of these are darker and more intense...)

1. Lara Adrian's Kiss of Midnight (The Midnight Breed, Book 1) - darker, more violent, but incredibly intense. Vampires protect the world from their evil brethren.
2. Dana Marie Bell's Dare to Believe (The Gray Court) - sexy, light, humorous para-romance with all manner of fae Sidhe, dragons, leprechauns, vampires and more.
3. Kresley Cole's slightly more adventurous and intricate magical romance series (never mind the ridiculous title) A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, Book 1)
4. Jacquelyn Frank's Jacob (The Nightwalkers, Book 1) - demons, were, vamps and other fae finding their better halves in races that should be the enemy
5. Larissa Ione's Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, Book 1) - demon centric romance series that sets up a demon-run hospital under a human city. Odd mix of lighter writing and darker subjects.
6. Sherrilyn Kenyon's Fantasy Lover - Dark Hunter series with shifters, vamps and Greek gods. The first book is not as good as the rest- it just gets better and better.
7. Erin McCarthy's High Stakes (Vegas Vampires, Book 1) - this is para-romance, not erotica, but is pretty funny and down to earth
8. J.R. Ward's Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 1) - also darker, more violent and incredibly intense vampire romance series. Vampires protect the world from their evil brethren. Vivid glimpses into the evil perspective as well.
9. Gena Showalter's The Darkest Night (Hqn) - sexy, demon-possessed immortals looking for true love in a world of hidden magical creatures.
